You can join at 16. That's because the armed forces are worried you might leave school, get an apprenticeship or something and then be settled in that environment by the time you are 18.

You can't be deployed until 18. Ironically because internationally if you are under 18 you are classed as a child soldier.

At 16 I would not have given a toss about voting. However watching my children and their peers it surprises me how much more engaged their generation is in politics than mine was. I wouldn't write off lowering the voting age on the grounds of maturity.

Yikes...I'd file that under "be careful what you wish for".

Not sure how much I'd extrapolate from that. This forum, and particularly this section, is dominated by right wing views, so it's unsurprising that the Conservative vote would rank so highly here.

I'm unconvinced kav.  I don't trust any of the polls on here because as you say they are slanted.  The postings are far more balanced.

It is noticeable to me because I was off the forums for most of the last two and a half years or so. When I returned in the last couple of months I noticed it had moved significantly to the right here. It appears to me that the left and centrist perspectives tend to be less represented (and more derided) on most discussions, but I appreciate that could just be my own biases showing.

So what was the point of parliament  blocking the goverments 12th Dec GE yesterday only to agree on it today ?

I'm getting ground down by it all.  I am accused of biased moderating by both sides.

There are more people in favour of leave than in the general population IMHO, but the remainers make up for it in vehemence.  IMHO.

across the whole of the western world the left has gone a bit crazy. Particularly in the form of intersectional woke-ness. No surprise that people have found the right for some sanity!
