How can this be?

Today the Scottish Government released the latest version of Government Expenditure and Revenue Scotland (GERS) covering 2017–18. In this observation we discuss what we can learn about Scotland’s fiscal position from these figures. And we look beyond the headline deficit figures to look at the trends in onshore revenue and government spending north and south of the border.  

I've been assured repeatedly that the Scottish government aren't responsible for the figures by @BobbyMac.

It makes pretty grim reading for people like myself who want Scotland to become independent. The chance of them presenting a credible case for independence without big spending cuts or tax rises looks remote.

Once freed of the Westminster government's anti-renewables and anti-science stance they will be able to capitalize on their renewable resources. Their oil was wasted but the wind keeps blowing.

Also Westminster has effectively banned all on-shore wind development and isn't very keen on off-shore.

In any case, Scotland can beef up its finances by charging the rUK for hosting the nuclear sub fleet.
