I've had this argument on various places online.

The cult of Corbyn just can't accept he lied. Even when you bring out the proof from the NME article that they almost certainly pre-approved before publication.

In Jeremy's defence, (Am I really defending him?) I believe that was a political platitude of the type all politicians make pre-election to reassure potential voters.  
Dealing with it takes many forms, wiping the slate clean was never mentioned. Although some of the suggested solutions are bizarre. Extending the payment window? Isn't it already 25 years and then the loan is written off. Extending the payment period will be a huge help then

I flagged this around the time the NME article was published. Post 1319 in the June 8 election thread.

Nobody denied that Corbyn wanted to cancel the debts then. They were perfectly happy for that to be the general understanding.

The 'everything is costed' sound bite wasn't quite true. Because when someone did work it out it was 76 billion!

yes one unfortunate isolated incident compared with a whole year of total idiocy culminating with the worst call for an election and subsequent useless campaign that i can ever remember.

no bribe as that implies it actually happened .What he said was that he would look into it to see what he could do about alleviating the debt many students will be carrying and, in the future, provide free university education.Obviously, because the election was called at such short notice the opposition parties had no time to fully cost whatever programme they had so it would be totally unreasonable to expect them tp make hard and fast promises.However,although we are in still in debt and there is only so much that can be done , the principle of providing free education for all is sound.Germans have done so for decades and that is because they know it doesn't just benefit the individual but society as a whole
