I believe that allegiance can be quite fluid in such places. It's a bit like being a member of the Judean Popular Front, and then defecting to the Popular Front of Judea.

No, I think they were seen as my enemy's enemy, rather than our friends. Like everything else in the Middle East, it's complicated.

Personally I think the least worst option is to leave Assad in place, unattractive human being that he is.

I believe you don't understand this thread.
A few small corrections to start with. Daesh was the name the Arabs gave to this group from the beginning. We chose to call them IS or ISIS and other variations. They have always been called Daesh and still are in the middle East.

If you want to listen and learn I will explain what is happening here.  Daesh have almost been defeated. This has been done by various powers in the region, including Hezbollah, Iran, Saudi, Kurds, Turkey and Qatar. There is a vacuum now and all of the powers, split into roughly Shia or Sunni sides want to fill the space. Lives have been lost on all sides so there is feeling of entitlement. But the problem is the biggest enemies, Saudi and Iran will start a proxy war in Lebanon.

This is now a religious war between the two Islamic ideologies for power and influence in Iraq and Syria.

That is way things stand at this minute.
