Only a complete and utter moron would sign-up to spend £3bn simply because he had a glass of bubbly on a boat.

I dunno..l. Maybe a barge if done up right will be ok for the jubilee celebration?

Get some balloons... Some flags...  It'll be fine...

they are but you are missing the point!

... new business in new markets .....

im sure Rolls Royce would be able to hire the new boat, which would then be a revenue generator for the boat

Again, you can't understand the appeal or value of something to others of which you hate...

Your hateful comments are just that... It's not the boat... It's the perception of investing billions in a country that is going to be around in 6 months...

You kinda get the opposite effect with a barge and some balloons...

Good lord...

What is hateful about not wanting to spend £60 million of public money on a boat

Some Americans do. But others regard our traditions as archaic and backward, and hardly a beacon of a progressive society - more like a sentimental icon of british imperialism and repression. In my experience, anyway.

I don't "hate" anything particularly, except maybe government waste! I think you're just projecting.
I suspect they are judging our stability and longevity on rather more than just a boat. Our economics, history, industrial capabilities, wealth, resources, political processes and world standing...etc.

Concorde...    Britannia....    Queen on a barge with some balloons at the jubilee ceremony...  Looming credit downgrade... See the pattern yet?

Good grief...

Although your comments did make me laugh...

Hey remember those parades that they used to do in Red Square with the missiles, tanks and troops etc? We could have a parade of PS3 consoles in front of the shuttered buckingham palace(can't afford to heat it, innit) to show the world our strength, get the moral of the country boosted and get an international buzz on some investing into England...
