Maybe back before the age of information.  When states could control information and its flow so to mobilise the majority of its people. But not now not even in Russia.

Certainly scope for what Putin's Russia sees as Russian Empire. Many in the West had written him off back when Crimea fell,  however, I always felt they only just judged him by western economic standards.

And May, may send out Hammond and Bojo to stamp their feet pull off  their dresses and scream from time to time, in reality there will be soft sanctions but the metaphorical umpire will shout 'fault' and  back too winky winky for offshores havens and our housing market!

The reason for my initial question was that the passage of the fleet was only phase 2 of Putin's behaviour. Phase one being the constant incursion into British airspace by his fighter aircraft. You could say that he has an ongoing phase with the persistent hacking of our government which necessitated a member of Mi5 (Andrew Parker) to issue a warning HERE.
It is certainly a worrying series of events.
