Migration is migration. Whether it is from the EU or not once you think it is a problem it matters not where it is from.

Ok just to clarify, let’s say the UK invests more money in the NHS and it expands rapidly and the NHS needs more doctors. It takes years to train people to be a doctor. So either there is a shortfall of doctors or we get more. It could be we get more from Poland, Sweden, Africa, India, it doesn’t matter. As long as they meet the criteria, can speak English to a decent level and anything else then no problem.
If it’s to pick fruit then I imagine it takes half an hour to train a fruit picker if that. As anyone can do it then we don’t need people to cross the world to do it. Tell those languishing on benefits you start picking fruit on Monday morning or your benefits and your free house and your Sky TV stops. That’s it.
Managed migration is no different to what happens in the US, Australia or lots of other places. If you have the skills and they are needed you are in. The problem is while we are attached to the EU we have little control hence why it is prominent but migration itself can be from anywhere.

People have been predicting such doom and gloom since the 70s. The fact is even by shutting off all immigration tomorrow, we still have issues with lack of investment in infrastructure for the last 40-50 years. We won't make the UK better anytime soon under such an immigration policy and the immigration policy change you want won't reduce birth rates or peoples' desire to improve their lot in life by wanting more/better things.

What's your proposal to limit the population of the UK to a figure you find acceptable, assuming a "no immigration" policy were to come into effect tomorrow permanently?

What I find interesting with your point of view is that you seem to not mind if people come here from non-white countries, speaking "decent" English, but others who sit on the same side of the immigration fence as you don't want more non-white immigration. Some on this thread and others already mention the lack of hearing English being spoken, non-EU immigrant communities in the UK creating countries within countries and small, traditionally white English towns being swamped with immigrants (not sure why English and not Welsh or Scottish, but hey-ho, UKIP appear to speak for a certain English mentality on the whole).

How will UKIP keep all the "no more (uncontrolled/controlled) immigration" factions happy, when some UKIPpers want one thing and others want something else?

Now I see your confusion. UKIP actually want managed immigration.

Ukip: David Cameron's immigration policy is vacuous and cynical posturing » Spectator Blogs

What Britain really needs is a tough, solid, Australian-style immigration system. One which is firm but fair and that can control numbers.
I would argue that this — the UKIP policy — is the most ethical immigration policy there is.
The EU immigration policy set for us in Brussels discriminates against doctors and lawyers from places like India, America and China, whilst showing an open door to anyone from Eastern Europe. That isn’t ethical. It isn’t fair. And indeed, in many ways, it is downright racist.

Assuming you mean me, I'm not confused. I understand UKIP's stated position on this as I've heard Farage enough on LBC to have understood his "Australian points-style" immigration proposals (which, by the way, mean Australia has more immigration proportionately than we do currently).

What I don't get is how that position is reconciled with those people who don't want any more immigration full stop or don't want non-white immigration? People in both positions appear to be voting UKIP as they believe UKIP will advance the immigration policy they want to see but UKIP won't.

Well perhaps they should either take note of Farage's position as if you have heard it enough then so have they or are you assuming something here? Who exactly are these people? I can't say I've seen them.

Not assuming anything. What do you think I'm assuming? There's enough of them phoning radio shows every week that I've heard. There's those that have appeared on the TV. If you don't think they are there then you just need to open your eyes and ears.
