Because he claimed he had seen the errors of his ways. I don't know if that was true or not, but jailing him does stop others from leaving for fear of jail.

I'm not passing judgement on the sentence, he had a trail and was found guilty. Enough said.

Still lead to a lot of anger with unplanned consequences

I have given mine, you yours.

Or are you now claiming you also speak for the public to?

I think it would be wise for me to drop this

"I decided to joined Daesh, had a few wives, beheaded a few aid workers, did some looting and raping, now I'm sorry, please don't jail me."

I must try that if I am ever in court. Yes, judge, I did drink ten cans of wifebeater and then drove down the motorway crashing into a hatchback and killing the occupants. However, I've now seen the error of my ways. Cheers.
And stops even more from joining in the first place. What do you think the outcome will be if we allow people to join, do as they want, kill who they want, behead who they want, immolate who they want, then come back and say they have now learned the error of their ways? You want to give every criminal a Get Out Of Jail Free card?
A lot more if nothing is done.

Personally I would rather not have them anywhere, but if you are going to use them, then they should be everywhere or not at all

I am going off personal experience. I can only recall one leftie who had a major objection to the armed forces and was free with his opinions. I didn't bother rising to it. Other than that I've known people say a lot of supportive stuff. I don't normally wear a uniform in public unless it's remembrance or something, but if I am driving from one end of the country to another I have to take breaks and I'm sometimes in a service station or similar.

That makes so little sense, can you explain?

I'm not trying to trip you up or anything, I just can't get my head around that coming from somebody who's brought up North Korea / Police state arguments?

If we need armed soldiers at the BBC big weekend in Hull to support the Local police force, what's wrong with that under the current circumstances, and if they're only needed in Hull then why should Leeds have armed troops on the streets as well?

Fair enough

I understand your passion in this matter and I'm not trying to have a go at the forces.

Clearly I have handled this badly so will bow out.

By everywhere I mean not just in London as that sends the wrong message of the rest of the country not being important.

And now I will bow out

What saddens me greatly, is people jumping on the backs of those genuinely hurt and grieving then trying to pretend they are impacted too because they are scared, I personally refuse to be cowered by such an awful loser who committed this act.  This didn't happen to me or anyone I know and we should respect those it did happen to, by not trying to pretend we are also victims.
