Lol. A cap is unfair to the poor compared to the previous proposal.

Under the previous Tory proposal my parents home would not be touched. Under a cap it could be. (Usual caveats that we don't yet know how this will work).

And I'd say my parents are relatively poor. Other than their home they have no assets and are both disabled and dependent on benefits.

Not to say they aren't in a better position than those that don't own a house.

Its not massively complicated,

max cost of care = 50% of (asset value -100k)

you get to keep: 100k   the remaining 50%

my numbers obviously, but I don't see many people struggling with that concept?
For income tax we're happy enough with the idea of a tax free allowance, then a % paid on any income above that allowance.

That would be my pitch, If I were in the right place at the right time.

Why do you say this? The 100k that you get to keep is still in place, but now there will be a limit on what over that is taken

Is that a guarantee? Nobody knows how the cap will work yet.

It could be that you pay yourself until £100k is left or the cap is reached, whichever is the greater.

Another issue is home ownership is becoming almost impossible for most people, if house prices continue to rise over the years, and interest rates will eventually go up, most people will never be able to buy a home. So what happens to this policy when fewer and fewer people have homes to offset on care?

Honestly, Squiffy, despite the fact that both your parents are on benefits (and I don't begrudge them that), despite the fact they have thousands of pounds of assets, you want the state to pick up their care bill?

If you'd been the least bit supportive of other people who have suffered under government cuts, then maybe this would not come across as so glaringly inconsistent.
