The company who installed your 'free' panels, and all of the other similar companies, must have some faith...
This type of scheme is popular and growing in other countries. The UK is by no means unique, despite what we like to think!

Thanks. I just can't believe anyone is giving a 25 year warranty on the panels.

Oh, absolutely I completely agree with you there. I'm not trying to suggest there is a risk there when there probably isn't.

Only that if there is a risk, it isn't my problem

Well I think I will have to leave it for just now the company that came to see me were called Solar Energy Savings they seemed to know what they were on about, and it did seem a good deal although I thought it was a bit too good so I would have wanted to research them a bit more, their selling point was that whatever you invested they would give it back to you in 7 years, so in my case they were looking at £20,000 for 4 KW of panels but that is just beyond me at the moment, my feeling is that if they can do what they claim then they can do it cheaper. Really in this economic climate unless it is spare money, a lot of people would not be able to afford that. So I will think on it some more.
Ideally I would like someone to put them in and they could have the profits for 10 years, I am told it pays for itself in 5yrs so they are getting 100% return on their layout after which I would want it to revert to me.
If anyone sees a company doing that let me know I would definately be interested.

£20k is way too much for a 4kW system.

Solar panels are only good for the installers imho.

A well specified system will reap plenty of reward with the current FIT tariff. No doubt about that.

8 year payback with many many "ifs" doesn't sound like plenty of reward to me

Taking the payback period into account and potential failure of some of the items at some point you should still come out way on top and easily make more money than you would have done if you had placed the cost of installation into the best savings account you could find.

Yes, agreed. We now have two costings for a 4kw system. Both around £12k.
