There's plenty of coal left if we really wanted it and there are huge reserves of shale gas in Lancashire and the North Sea - in this part of the world alone. No wonder the global warming cult hates it; Their dream of a return to a stone age existence would be ruined by cheap energy.

Thorium based nuclear power also has huge potential as a long term power source. The Chinese & Indians are working on these now. Thorium is about as plentiful as lead and with a half life of 14 billion years, it's not going anywhere fast.

Fusion power isn't about lack of money.
They are constantly pushing the boundaries of science and engineering and have to take things in order.
This was always expected to take a few generations and has resulted in quiet co-operation between 0countries because it's importance is recognised.
