I'm forever reading articles on the best foods for pre/post workout and (surprise surprise) I read a lot of conflicting information... I'm kind of fed up of protein drinks and I want to try something else.

Does anyone have go-to foods that they have before and after working out?

I just have a banana after a run/ride/swim and seems to do me fine. Do not have anything as such before other than my usual diet/meals.
The reason for the conflicting information is that there is very little evidence on any of the different suppliments etc.
If you goals are just to get fitter/stronger then I would not bother with all the supplements/ protein powder etc. Instead just have a reasonably balanced diet and this should give you all the nutrients etc. you need.

I agree with you on the supplements and protein powder - if you get enough in your diet there's no need to supplement.

I also read recently that if you eat just before working out it gives you a stitch

Black coffee before I work out and then just get on with it

My next meal is my next meal no powders or anything. Usually I train early am and then my first meal of the day is lunch at about 2 pm......

I eat two eggs and half a bowl of oats and cornflakes.
Train.
Lunch is protein food/fruit/carbs/veg
Evening same as lunch.

I don't drink shakes or take any other supplements, I don't see the point. Just eat healthy foods and have the occasional pizza.

One of my fave recipes is crispy chicken using cream crackers instead of bread crumbs. It's a Jamie Oliver recipe. Really tasty.

Scrambled on the pan using coconut oil or poached.

Quaker Oats 10gram protein packs are worth having as an additional supplement.
