Any vegetables that can be grow on an allotment, any fruit off a tree or bush, any meat from domestic livestock that can be kept in a garden. My grandfather, a keen gardener, had a large allotment and in addition kept rabbits and chickens in his council house garden which also had two apple trees in it.

So, during the summer and autumn there was enough to supplement the weekly ration. Winters were a lot harder. My grandmother kept a stock of apples and potatoes in the coal shed to last over winter.

Best way to start with this WWII rationing stuff is to learn to make your own bread and how use dried powdered eggs in cooking.

Love home made bread

TBH shop bought bread goes off that quick now even the convenience isn't worth it.

No cheating

When it say margerine it means that foul stuff I had to eat as a kid (Blue Band) and that was in the 60s and 70s so probably a lot better than what they had in the 40s.  None of this 'I can't believe it's not butter' stuff.

Can you still get powdered eggs - never seen them, mind you I've never looked.

And your milk will have to be full fat.

Cheers,

Nigel

What I am finding baffling is what to have/get (if was available or allowed) in tinned stuff and cereals, and soft drinks,
Or is it basically anything providing it's within the points system?
