Yes they are.

Although if you ever find yourself in Birmingham. There is a company called Mushtaqs that has a few branches. Very nice stuff!

Why is authenticity important, if the food is otherwise nice?
If you're Indian, I fully understand it.
But I know several people who seem to seek 'authentic curries' for no apparent reason, other than food snobbery.

"Oooh, it's so authentic.."
"How do you know?"
".......em...."

They've got zero point of reference, it does my head in.

I can understand both sides.  Nice food is nice food regardless of where it originates.  However, authenticity can be imporrtant, especially if you've been abroad to that country and want to rekindle memories with flavours.

I love curries, but what annoys me is the complete lack of consistency - you can love a particular dish from one restaurant and it can taste completely different elsewhere.

I think it's only authentic Indian, if you spend the whole of the next day sat on the toilet

Unless it's sweet you're ordering.
Then they all come out with the same card showing pictures of frozen efforts.

Yeah, what is it about Indian restaurants and their poor effort at desserts? (That sounds like a bad stand-up comedian's routine, but I'm serious - they're all the same.)

There's only one or two do Gulab Jamun up here.
That's how they spell it here, if it's wrong it's their fault!
But I'll go out of my way to use restaurants that have it.
It's lovely.
I have some reserved (I'm not kidding) at a place I'm going to on Sat.

They sure are.
It took another Yorkshireman to have the courage to say so.
