I didnt have much trouble is Thailand as they dont usually thicken sauces and a lot of soups are coconut based.

Spain is quite good. I was there last year and most people understand "Sin Gluten" and even the ice cream parlour had a gluten free listing on their ice cream menu Lots of things are labelled gluten free.

Another drink I picked up in spain is "Tinto De Verano". Its basically poorish quality red wine mixed with fanta lemon. Its mixed and then kept in the fridge in a plastic container. Its tastes great and its good as a cooling long drink on a hot day - not many of those in the UK at the moment!

Ever since I started the gluten free diet I have never put and weight on and wondered if it was due to the diet! How about you?

Thanks for the advice, I have been looking for a place to go which would be easy with my diet and I have read that Spain would be good. I have never put up any weight as I have played football for my whole life and also other sports as hobby I think I got few pounds when the coeliac disease was diagnosed, because the food started to infiltrated (I´m not sure it this is the right word) better..

Yes I wondered if it is the diet or the fact that I play football that keeps the weight down. The only thing is at 52 my hour of five aside on an Monday is starting to get harder and the recovery times for knocks takes longer! Hopefully I will have a few years left of playing as I really look forward to it!

I am off to Spain on Friday for a week so if I find any useful celiac info I will post back.

Hi cunny and Sammy, I have coeliac (celiac) disease also, just diagnosed 2 weeks ago.

I've joined CSI (the Coeliac Society of Ireland), got their handbook and Gluten free Food List so I've tried to follow that rigidly.
Already I feel I have lost some of the bloated feeling, IBS type symptoms and a few pounds on the scales.
I have already found "Estrella Damm Daura" in my local Tesco    nice stuff, and I'll have to get used to cider again.

Still getting my head around it, overall I'm glad to get diagnosed, could be worse I suppose.

Its never nice to be diagnosed with an illness, but identifying food as a coeliac has been getting easier over the past few years. Also as the article below, more and more business are starting to realise they can make money out of it - which is great for us

Post on the thread if you need any help with anything!

Thanks for that, it appears Prezzo and La Tasca are also offering gluten free dishes:arty:

I'm not a coeliac but wheat and barley intolerant. Only figured it out the hard way 7 years ago. The improvement in options in this country has been remarkable in that time. Yes travel is still  tough. My company has offices in the US and Singapore which is challenging. Especially as soy sauce is off the menu. Agreed on Estrella and cider. Check out GFA ale only in Tesco.
My favourite part of this is that haggling conversation in a pub/restaurant....

Interesting to find other awkward people out there.
