I was going to buy a second mechanical mod to use as well as my Nemesis (that I love) but have decided to try one of these variable voltage devices instead. Sometime ago a friend got a Vamo V5 and said he was pleased with it so with them being under 25 bucks delivered on Fastech I thought I'd give one ago. That is until I discovered there's now a V6, V7 and a much more expensive V8.

The V8 is out of my price range for now but there only seems to be a few dollars difference between the other 3. Any one know if the extra is worth it? Or would anyone recommend an alternative make altogether given I'm not looking to spend over 30 bucks (20 quid) delivered?

If i was you id save a bit extra and get either the Istick 30 (£33) or Smok X-pro m22 (£27) both from the UK,  as the Vamo is a large device indeed was my first VV device i gave it away after like 10 days as it was far too big for me.

Yeah the Vamo does look quite big. Further research shows there's also a Vamo 9 and 10 now too to add to confusion. There's plenty of talk about the V5 but less as you look into the later models which suggested to me there may have been better alternatives on the market now. I'll look at the models you've suggested although as I'm seeing this as a spare/secondary/backup device I wanted to keep it as cheap as possible while including the facility to test coil resistance so a Vamo is still on the cards.

You should consider the IPOW 2 as well. It does everything you want it to do and for £20 it's cheap.
Have a look at the youtube reviews....they can't fault it.

I bought one as a back up battery and now use it as my main. Great piece of kit.
I might look into mods at a later date, but for day to day vaping this is ideal.

Could you explain in beginners terms what benefits I would get from the Istick 30 over the Istick 20? It seems the 20 is within my current budget and if the 30 doesn't offer anything that will benefit me at the moment I could look at getting the 20 now and upgrading at a later date.

In beginners terms nothing,  it does however allow for sub ohm builds where the 20 doesn't 0.4 ohms vs 1 ohm minimum, also has a extended cup so 22mm and 23mm mods look good on it where as they overhand on the 20.   So in reality nothing if you build above 1 ohms if you build below 1 ohm which im assuming not since the vamo wont fire below that also.

That's what I thought might be the case. I'm yet to look into sub ohm builds so I might look closer at the istick 20 for now as my initial impression is it looks ideal. Thanks again for your help!

I had the Xpro M22 for a few days before it started acting weird and then died. It's also not really suitable for sub-ohming, despite having a mech mode. I'm not up to date on tube style mods but I believe the V5 can't sub-ohm either, as Lomez points out.

My suggestion would be one of the following:

-Cloupor Mini 30w (I have this and it's awesome!)
-Sigelei Mini 30w (@oska has one and rates it highly)
-iStick 30w (many worthwhile improvements over the 20w, so even if you don't plan to sub-ohm it's worth the upgrade)
-Kanger Kbox
-Smok Xpro M65

All can be found for under £40 on their AngelfireMods, VapeClub or MyEpack. AFM will test the Cloupor before shipping too.

The iStick 20 has inferior threading, this is fixed in the iStick 30. The iStick 30 benefits from a spring loaded 510 pin, the iStick 20 doesn't. The iStick 20 fires above the settings you use, again, this is fixed in the iStick 30.

Thanks guys! Lots for me to look into there. With so many options on the market it's difficult to know where to start this this info is all a great help.
