Baffled by the lack of 4k bluray from a company heavily invested in the medium... also thought the event was dull as hell and seemed rushed. So much talk of 4k and HDTV's and even time to talk up 4k media like Netflix but the 4k gaming side is very misleading. This console won't play games at native 4k surely!? High end PC's that cost far more than this console struggle with 4k res (3840x2160) so how have Sony cracked it for £350?
It was a lot of clever marketing for me, yes some of the footage was very nice but I don't seem to be the only one left feeling rather deflated by this showing....
I think Sony just didn't see it coming when MS announced the One S and it was already too late to implement a 4k drive.

2 disappointing reveals for me tonight. The iPhone was a let down too

Confirmed, No 4K bluray support on ps4 pro, the spec sheet was just leaked by eurogamer:

Wow, no UHD BD, that was the reason for me updating my PS4 as I have a high end rig and was hoping for 2 HDMI outputs for a dedicated audio output for UHD BD. Now I am laughing at myself for even thinking that may have been possible, when it does not even have UHD BD, Ho well.

No games for me on PS4 until horizon zero dawn, so will update my PS4 around then, next year.

It can't be just upscaled 4k surely (as 4k tv's will do that anyway).

Its using temporal upscaling to do the job, not really 4K.

Thanks interesting read... so basically it was marketing smoke screen the way they were saying you can play all your games in 4k... All you will be doing really is playing the games in a higher res, probably 1080 60fps or possible 1440 60 fps and then upscaled on a 4kTV.

I still think the lack of 4k bluray is a massive error, they can say they are focusing on the games but to leave out a new piece of hardware that would have made the jump to 4k more appealing seems crazy.  Like I said, I don't think they were expecting MS to release the One S with 4k bluray by which time the Pro had already hit production or close to.

Oh well, I will give it a miss.  Just isn't enough it it for me, and I am not sold on VR or the looks of the Pro.

It will definitely run the games at higher res, possibly 1440 or 1800 but no way will it run native 4k.  By sounds of it, some clever upscaling is being done in the console.  Still, I would take 1440p 60fps right now over 900p 60fps.... games are going to look nice

Not a problem.

Have to agree with you, day one buy for me when I thought it was a given that UHD BD would have be included, but not now, will wait until the next 1st party game that I be playing on the PS4 which is March next year. Well that gives plenty of time to see side by side demos of PS4 vs. PS4 PRO in video footage.

Thinking about it more, UHD BD would of cost them mostly nothing to include, so why not? MS did and the new AMD APU as support for HEVC, so no problem there and drives are about that can read UHD BD like LG on PC, MS have one. So have no clue why Sony would not add it in as I think that would of pulled many PS4 owners over to the PRO where now they probably thinking like me “ is that it “ ? shame really.
