So i know it's been out a while but my son is 15 next month and he's wondering if he should upgrade to this from the One bearing in mind they may bring the Scarlet out next year.
He's got a 1080p HD TV (not 4k) so is it worth upgrading from a Standard One to a One X?

No.   Unless you have a 4k tv that's a decent size with HDR,  You'd be wasting your money

I've been enjoying its capabilities on my 1080p TV (Sony W905) since it launched. You still benefit from the higher resolution with super sampling and you can see the difference with X Enhanced games compared to the original X1.

Yes it is worth it. If he uses the Xbox One a lot then it's a worthwhile upgrade in my opinion. Even on a 1080p screen the games are much improved and look superb. Cracking console.
Lots of enhancements for some games where you can choose graphics or performance. Forza Horizon 4 and Tomb Raider looks and plays great at 60fps.

Its worth it look at digital foundrys review of assassins creed odyessy  the standard one is classed as last gen now, it runs bad on the standard one and all future games id imagine will be the same

As @King Tones says there are a number of games which allow you to run at 1080p with either increased frame rate or improved textures. Games that have no official enhancements you will find that performance is more consistent, load times are significantly improved as well.

some of the games released in the last 12 months are arguably unplayable on the original console with frame rates dropping sub 20fps

I still have an original xbox one in an another room and after using the one x even a simple thing like navigating the dash or store now feels like a slow and somewhat frustrating experience.

If the console is getting the usage i think its worth the extra regardless of display it is connected to

cheers

Yes it’s worth it, and the Scarlet won’t be out until Fall 2020.

Very much so, regardless of TV.

The Hard Drive is faster, things render quicker, for anyone saying no go play PUBG on the One then the X, way better!
