Looking to upgrade my Panasonic TX47 1080p screen at last for a 4k 10 bit HDR screen for xbox one x gaming to take advantage of the enhanced 4k hdr etc.
Minimum size 55"
Any recommendations? I'm struggling to locate a screen which covers all the above without going nuts with the budget.

Have seen the LG 55sk8000 at around £799 is a 10 bit screen according to displayspecifications.com but i'm not convinced of the HDR capability of LG screens due to what appears to be their limited nit levels.
also the LG55sk8500 which appears to be a FALD screen with slightly better peak brightness levels at around £949.

The Sony KD55XF8577 at around £899 is stated as a 10 bit panel on displayspecifications.com and a better brightness level again than both the LG.

This is assuming displayspecifications.com is reasonably accurate!
I'm leaning towards the Sony screen

help!

Buy an OLED. You can find the 2017 LG models still for ~£1200. B7/C7.

2018 B8/C8 are £1499

It will be worth it. Seriously worth it.

Get B8/C8 if you can afford it.

They have dynamic tone mapping function available in game mode which solves HDR10 tone mapping problems (leading to dim/dark scenes) and increases brightness.

The 2017 LG OLED models do not have this, some LCD's have a similar feature too.

£1500 on a screen for gaming is a bit more than I had in mind
was trying to keep the budget at around £8-900 if possible.
Is there really that much benefit to going OLED?!

Over the screens you've mentioned? Yes. Some of the high end Samsung QLEDs are good - but overpriced.

The best value for a 4K HDR screen that is decent is the LG OLED's. A 2017 model will be fine if you want to save money.

For LED's to do 4K HDR justice you're looking at the Sony XF9005 model. Which is about £1300.

Now if you forget about decent HDR then its a different conversation....

Keep an eye on the classifieds here, some 2017 oleds with warranty remaining have been going for around your budget, well worth spending the extra on an oled that is hdr premium specified over the models you've mentioned that are mid range tv's that won't display hdr as intended whether they are 10 bit panels or not

Might be worth asking this in the TV forums, there are some very knowledgeable people there who will be able to help you.

Whatever you do  avoid oled .If you game for long periods and have static images there's a significant risk of getting those images permanently burnt into your screen. Then it's ruined. Burn in is not covered by any warranty
Just look online at all of the horror stories  Of course people on here will say they've not had any trouble  That's irrelevant
Just ask yourself if you want to play Russian roulette with your new TV?
I spent over £2k on my new TV a few months ago. I could have easily afforded an oled TV but I absolutely refused to take the risk. I can play fifa at 4k for four hours our more without break  Its highly likely I'd have had a oled screen ruined by its incipient design faults.yes its a design fault that means you can't safely have static images on a screen with impunity
Try the Sony xf9005 series. It's brighter than any oled, got near perfect blacks and you can play with impunity . Oh yes the pictore is also truly magnificent
Don't forget  Avoid oled if you are a gamer

I play PC and Xbox games for hours on end on my OLED and have had zero issues with screen burn. Your post is just hyperbolic nonsense.
