My only issue with onboard is that I have read some reports it can't keep up with a 1080p 60fps stream comfortably. A low end discreet gpu however would have no problem.

It can very very easily handle a stream
it just cant encode very well but for encoding a CPU is more important anyway

I'v just put a gtx 950 into my htpc , and it handles all of my mkv, mp4 files with out any problems ,
at first i had a old gtx 630 , but with that it struggle a bit trying  keeping up with the mkv's ,
how ever i read gtx 750 ti/sc will cope fine , unless you move into h.265 codex  then it might struggle .
my htpc also has the intel g3258  (1155 socket @  around about £50) OC to 4.2mhz

as a bonus the 950 will happily stream steam from my gaming pc to the htpc at 1080p 60fps , all  at  high settings.

Could I ask will a 750w power supply be sufficient to run a sli 970 set up? Cpu is a 2500k with a mild oc and currently have 1 strix 970. Was looking at a corsair rm series power supply to upgrade from an older 620w unit . Any advise would be great

thanks

Easily. 970s aren't power hungry cards. I'd probably pick something different to the RM series as there is better out there but it's still decent enough.

EVGA SuperNova G2 750W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply

Same PSU, different suppliers - you'll get free next day delivery with Scan due to AVF if you wish to go for them. It's the same price as Scan have the RM750 for but it's one of the best power supplies out there at the moment: EVGA Supernova G2 750W Review

It has been time consuming but all builds updated and also done for OcUK and Scan. This gives better visibility of how the prices and part availability can differ across different retailers. The reason for not using PCPartPicker is that I've seen some of the parts they have listed too limiting and I would expect someone purchasing a system in one go like this to want to make things easier by going to as few suppliers as possible.

What was interesting, and in some cases surprising, was seeing how some of the prices had changed. For example, very surprisingly the i7-6700K has gone up by 70 quid! SSDs, as everyone would expect, have come down a reasonable amount.

Ordered   Thanks for the info. The reviews are pretty good. Now onto fans, upgrading the oem 650d ones. Was going to use BitFenix 200mm Fans, one for the intake at the front and one on top, with a AF120 for exhaust out the rear. Any opinions on those ? Don't mind the led one's for a little effect so to speak, but looking for performance and reasonably quiet, as the standard fans are pretty loud !

Thanks
