How? I can't even begin to understand this. Surely not infinite. Is it procedurally generated? And if so, how does it know where one player is in relation to another? Are we saying it's one instance that everyone plays on? How how how? My brain can't cope.

Yes, it is procedurally generated and the infinite universe line was given by Sean Murray who I believe is the lead programmer on the game, I am pretty sure he mentioned it at this E3 where he talked briefly about the game after the video.

I vaguely recall an interview I read with him where he explained that none of the areas are defined until someone visits it for the first time (i.e. a player exploring) whereby that information is then procedurally generated and then that information stored so that area of the universe is set to those specific parameters, that area labelled as being discovered by XX player and credited to them for all others to see if they happen to visit.

If you look at the first video Chalky linked, ten seconds in you will see that it shows a set of caves as being discovered by Hellogames and that it is uploading, I guess uploading the player information and the associated procedurally generated data.

Check out this interview.

Here's a question. Have they said what you actually do in the game yet?? Cause if its just exploring its gong to get a bit dull and repetitive

Anyone else think the single person spacecraft bear more than just a passing resemblance to an X-Wing?

That's a good video. Looks like we'll never really run into eachother though which essentially makes it a single player experience in a way. Or a bit like Watch Dogs, where you might encounter the odd troll trying to steal your resources before vanishing forever.
