You can remove the plastic Stylus Guard. As to tracking weight, you simply set the tracking weight to the correct value with or without the Stylus Guard.

I have a Stanton Cartridge that has a Brush in front of the Stylus, but setting the tracking weight, if you follow the instructions, has never been a problem.  I would show you a photo but there is no way to access that Image or any of the attachements I have archived. But a small matter, the point is made.
