Just thought id post my views after having my CCTV package in for several weeks now.
I have used ring stick up cams for a couple of years but decided to go for a proper CCTV install when moving to a new home and to be honest I haven't looked back.
I have to say a big thanks to @mushii who advised me to go with the hikvision 4mp darkfighter turret cams. These cameras are exceptional providing a brilliant quality image even at low light.
The ring cameras were good, dont get me wrong but i found that a constant, solid reliable wifi connection was critical. With kids in the house downloading xbox games, watching youtube etc this wasnt always possible and I found I was left with pixelated, juddery footage.
This isnt an issue with this setup and I'm extremely happy with the quality and features of the cameras/NVR.
I have setup line crossing detection so I still get my phone notifications and live view features that I got with my ring cams.
For me its a no brainer to get a proper CCTV install but I understand routing cat5 cables round the home isnt as easy as sticking some wifi cameras up.

Within one week of having my cameras up, id got footage of some scrote trying our door handles in the early hours......which id have known absolutely nothing about without the cameras up.

I want to thank @mushii once more for recommending, providing, installing and setting up of my system. The cameras were flush mounted to my walls without the unsightly junction boxes and look the absolute business. This bloke knows his stuff and I knew absolutely nothing about this stuff before. Thanks buddy

Nice to hear and @mushii knows his stuff from what I’ve seen on the forums.

He certainly does mate. I was completely clueless before but @mushii made it very easy for me to decide what I wanted and has been a massive help even after install.....I’m now helping a mate of mine who has similar cameras with his set up after his installer basically “fit and ran”.

Can I ask what set-up you went with? How many cameras and what NVR? I’m moving home soon and currently use a mix of cheap IP cams that stream to a Synology box. Would like some thing a bit more robust and I currently have a single hikvision dark vision cam watching the drive and it’s fantastic.

I'm thinking of installing some  turret cams on my soffits, is that a good idea? I'm thinking to feed cat cables to them from the loft?

Hi. Im wondering how to flush mount cameras to walls. Does that mean you can do without a back box or wall mount? I'm looking into 4MP DS-2CD2346G1-I Hikvision AcuSense cameras for my mum's and hoping to minimise changes to her house.

I'm hoping these AcuSense cameras will stop false alerts if they really can distinguish people from other moving objects. I don't want woken up at 2am to see our local fox. Any idea if these cameras would do the job or if I'd still get some false alerts? Thanks.

To flush mount I don’t use the RJ45 capsule to  weather seal the plug, I use self amalgamating tape. With careful tucking you can then get all of the cables into the base without using an extender.

Great to hear. Had my system for about 4 years now and it's been faultless.

That's what I did in the end, tucked all the wires behind the cam and used loads of outdoor sealant between the brick and cam. When I put up my first cam up I stupidly drilled a huge hole through the wall for the massive plug
