No doubt in CES 2020, we're going to see new tech which are going to be exciting, not the experimental TVs, for the LCD market. The OLED will remain stagnant with no new breakthrough or increase in Nits.

If Samsung or Sony bring out a retail model with Dual Layer LCD or Mini LED features, then it would be a game changer. The Chinese companies showed what it could be done but if the major players get into the game with their vast know how and technology, then it would bring a new lease of life to the LCD based TVs.

202 is going to be interesting but don’t expect major breakthrough.
The dual lcd is an interesting one and wish they did it many years ago.
Mini led will be also there but micro led is 2-3 years away
The biggest advance can strangely be in oled. Use of quantum dot and new substrat. No wonder Samsung invested a fortune in it to catch up...
Finally, perhaps we will start to see higher frequency panels for smoother motion...but I doubt it...

If you think like marketeers, they are still riding the 8k horse and...lets hope something else..
From what I have seen so far, descent onboard sound is the next battleground.

I’m after a new Sony FALD with more than 50 zones (100 ), Dolby Vision and HDR10  and HdMI 2.1 on a 120hz panel with all their motion and upscaling superiority.

Am so tempted by the 55XG9505 at £999 and if it comes down under that then I’ll probably have to forego it’s shortcomings and get it.
It’s reviews have been less than stellar but side by side vs other TV’s in its class, it blew them away to my eyes.

The Micro Led is few years away, in the mean time to fill the gap, Mini Led and Dual layer LCD is the way forward.
As you say, the QD OLED is also few years away.

8K TV is a joke and a gimmick that some fools would sadly fall for it. See the FlatpanelsHD article on it which explains why it's a gimmick and a waste of money.

There's likely a good reason that dual LCD hasn't made it into TVs despite being used in other LCDs for many years now.

'Mini LEDs' are just a backlight with more dimming zones. IIRC they were talking about 1000 compared to 500 on current TV models. It seems like just a new marketing term highlighting the development of local dimming rather than any sort of leap, breakthrough or alternative approach.

Dual LCD hast two major issues. Peak brightness and power consumption.

Like AdamskiP I just hope Sony bring's on some Mini LED TV's Sets with HDMI 2.1 VRR 120Hz panels and more dimming zones. The Problem will be the screen size. I highly doubt those TV's will be available at 32 inch size. Most likely starting at 49. But I need a new TV for my PS5 next year.

I think dual layer LCD is dead in the water at this stage - TCL dropped it and seemingly the latest Hisense prototype that was shown was a bit of a mess.

I think Sony may also be done with the high end LCD development as well as they have pretty much just phoned in the last batch.

Mini LCD could be interesting but then again if TCL are pricing it at the same levels as OLED you do wonder if it has any real future because Samsung (you would imagine) would be a fair chunk more expensive than TCL.

I think it was Fomo On Tech who said that TCL may be looking to do a similar thing that Samsung are doing with their upcoming QD OLED but using that process to make QD LCD so that could be something to look out for.

I think LG are in danger of taking on too much themselves with regard to OLED as they can't keep producing largely the same panel every year and their eye has been taken off the ball by their rush to get production up as opposed to improving the tech as they go along.

Oh and 8K is going to be everywhere on the LCD front next year ... even when reviews have largely shown it is simply a gimmick.
