hi guys my name is Gary and iv just joined, cant find an intro forum so iv just posted here ... this is my first post and its a help me post if thats ok ?
my mum has a 40 inch technika led tv in her bedroom ( don't know model number but can get it if needed ) and she wanted a set of headphones so as not to disturb my sister in the next room at night ..

before i go any further i'm pretty good at all the AV stuff and have quite a good set up myself in the flat and over the years have helped many people set up their AV equipment but this has me completely beat and need a hand to sort it out if you can please ...

so basically when i plug the headphones into the tv headphone socket (3.5mm jack plug) the sound stops coming from the tv and comes through the headphones like it should ..
headphones are cheap £20 Phillips brand with volume control ..
when i turn the tv off with the headphones still plugged in and then turn the tv on again the sound is coming from the tv speakers and nothing through the headphones..

iv been in the sound menu a dozen times and there is nothing regarding turning speakers on or off  or anything to do with headphones ...
no matter what combo i try the tv always comes on with sound from the tv speakers and not the headphones ...
i even plugged a headphone extension cable in thinking to turn the tv on then plug the headphones into the extension but this didn't work either ..

so what is going on ? i had a record player in the 70s when i was a kid and when i plugged my headphones in they worked when it was turned on again cant believe this day and age that this problem exists ....  thanks guys ....

Welcome.
There are certain models of Technika TV's which have a separate headphone volume control within the sound menu and the internal speakers don't mute when headphones are plugged in.
This is a good design because it means someone hard of hearing can plug in the headphones and the rest of the family can still hear the sound from the internal speakers.
It's easy to spot this within the sound options of the settings menu.
BTW it's always a good idea to post the model number with a query like this.

What's the model no?
Can you attach a picture of the menu?
What happens after you unplug the headphones? does the sound return to the speakers, then if you plug the headphones back in do the speakers mute?

In that case I wouldn't let it bother you too much.

Ah, understood now.
Report back with the model no taken off the rear label when you get a chance.
