Just upgraded to a rtx 2070, nice simple upgrade I thought but clearly not....

My old card is a 970gtx, so I powered down and removed it. Put the new card in and computer starts to boot then beeps once and wont go any further.

Tried re-seating it a few times and using hdmi and dvi but no luck. Its using an 8 and 6 pin power connectors and I can see the card powers up ok as lights come on and fans spin.

Mobo is an msi p67A-GD53

I get the code B2 in bottom left hand corner indicating a gpu problem but no idea what it could be.

Anyone got any idea?

Any bios updates for the MSI board? (Takes a look, nope)
Also look for other driver updates from Intel. I'd contact MSI since the board is of a certain age.
They are pretty quick in replying.

Did you remove your old 970 drivers completely, I mean fresh install and not overwriting them? If that doesn't work can you test the card on another PC? A friends perhaps.

Download the drivers from the Nvidia site and choose 'clean install' when prompted.
This should remove all traces of the older drivers if any.

But wont that mean the old drivers for the 970 are still installed if I'm reinstalling them before I change cards over?

Put your old 970 back in and do as I suggested. Then re-install your RTX card.
Or you can manually remove your old drivers using uninstall in control panel. But this is no guarantee the old drivers will be completely removed.

Personally I use Revo uninstall because it gets rid of registry entries when removing apps I don't use. It's free, it works.
