In Kodi I can send the video to one output and audio to another but this has to be configured in Kodi so I expect the same is true with JRiver.
If there isn't an option for split audio and video, use Windows settings to make the second output the default audio device but of course this will be used by anything else that can't be configured for a non default audio output.

Hi Trollslayer

I've tried to access the settings in Windows Sound but as soon as I connect up, I momentarily see the screen and then it turns blue in less than a second. I managed to take a screenshot (enclosed) and it does show the Yamaha YSP-2200 sound bar present but because the screen disappears so fast, I can't select/enable/configure the devices. Bloody annoying!

I followed this guide to get my HTPC to play DTSHD MA etc...

Bitstreaming Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD with the Intel Core i3

Basically, you need to install and configure ffdshow. Bear in mind the article is 8 years old so the software version will differ, but the principle's still the same.

Tried all these options also - all result in the same blue screen.

1. Nvidia 1060 6GB HDMI 1 ----> Yamaha YSP-2200   Nvidia 1060 6GB DVI ----> HP Monitor ZR22W.
2. Nvidia 1060 6GB HDMI 1 ----> Yamaha YSP-2200   Nvidia 1060 6GB HDMI 2 ----> HP Monitor ZR22W DVI (HDMI to DVI cable)
3. Nvidia 1060 6GB HDMI 1 ----> Yamaha YSP-2200   Nvidia 1060 6GB DisplayPort 1 ----> HP Monitor ZR22W DisplayPort.

Forget all that! Install MPC-HD (media player), install and configure ffdshow as detailed in the link above and you're good to go. It bypasses all that mucking about with windows audio stuff and just works!

Crikey, Nvidia support aren't very good are they

I also have been using HTPC's since 2005 and have been bitstreaming via HDMI since not long after that.

Nvidia and AMD both work fine, as do Intel. It also works fine in a variety of players, including MPC-HC (via LAV), Kodi, Media Portal, Plex Media Player. I get all audio formats this way including Atmos and DTS:X, all bitstreamed to my AVR. I do this in three rooms, with three different AVR's with an Nvidia card, an AMD card and an Intel NUC.

Tips on setting it up..

In windows set the sound settings to stereo. This means that any stereo audio will hit the amp as stereo, and they you can use the amp to upmix it.

In the player, choose WASAPI if you can (eg Kodi), then choose bitstream / passthrough and tick all the audio formats that your amp supports.

Reboot everything.

Should work!

Hi Rambles

Thanks for the advice, it's all working now using JRiver with the WASAPI setting, similar to what you've advised. But I'll certainly trial the other products like MPC-HC (via LAV), Kodi, Media Portal, Plex Media Player etc.

Many thanks!

I'm going to create a new thread for this other issue, as the original query has been successfully answered. Thanks everyone for the great technical advice and insights in your configurations, experience and setups!

He already has it working for films.

Installing MPC-HD isn't going to help him with his games or the way he is trying to setup it with multiple cables.

VLC and Kodi don't require any additional Codecs (including ffdshow)
