Contrary opinions...
You don't need to run multiple cables to a room. In the unlikely event that a cable develops a fault you can use that cable to pull through a new one. Just be mindful when installing cables that you can allow them to be pulled through.When putting in new cable, always use the highest speed and quality you can afford - it will pay off in the long run. I personally wouldn't use anything less than cat 6 at this point.The speed of wired connections has actually fallen below that of wireless connections for affordable installations. 10Gb wired equipment is still very expensive so it might actually be better to use wireless for now, especially if your house is compact. That said, I have a preference for wired connections myself just because they tend to be more reliable, but that's a function of how much I spend on my wireless setup.
