Powerline or WiFi extender for 4K

I have ordered some zyxel pla5456 powerlines and if they don’t work I am going to look into the devolo gigagate. And if that doesn’t work, I will stick with the Ethernet until something finally comes along.

I've tried numerous different ways of streaming 4k over the last year and have come to the conclusion that nothing other than a proper wired connection works perfectly.

I've routed a single ethernet cable from a switch in the living room to the router on the 1st floor and then used D-Line trunking to hide the cable. The trunking isn't perfect as there's a LOT of bends and angles but at least it means i can stream 4K content without issue.

I have tried the Zyxel PLA5456. Doesn't work. I have bought a Devolo Gigagate. Fingers crossed.

Honestly, the time and cost of messing around with powerline etc, is pointless. There are solutions out there that will allow wireless streaming but will cost £500 - £600 but you need to be looking at professional networking kit, not domestic. Why not just stick with a cabled connection as it offers the necessary band width?

Didn’t try the gigagate in the end.

I have given up and I am going to stick with my flat Ethernet cable until something new comes along.

Bud, unless someone can rewrite the laws of physics, there will be nothing "new coming along". There is a reason why a small handfull of people here advise ethernet; it works. If it doesnt work, there is a resovlable fault.

Powerline and wifi might work for a given poster. That poster cannot guarantee it will work in another user's environment. You only have to read a few threads, calculator in hand, to see how much money people throw at these wireless solutions before going bcak to the an original suggestion of a £15 cat5 cable.

How about trying a Ubiquiti AC Pro just for video.

There are always new things coming along. New types of wireless and powerline technology are coming out. I will look at the Ubiquiti but it uses POE so therefore it will still need a wire. Thanks.
