I`m amazed that HTC have goofed this up so badly. They had a perfect chance to reclaim some of the VR market and drive in new users. And the failed on the two key points. 1 user experience 2 price bracket.

Unless the do a massive price cut and fix it (both doubtful) they are fudgeed.
I just found out this morning that one of the guys in my office got a Cosmos, we are trying to convince him to bring it in so we can have a gander. I`m fortunate to work for a progressive firm, that and one of our clients donated a couple of RTX rigs for our breakout areas!

Exactly. Valve released an overpriced headset. Oculus released a botched headset without audio.

There’s a clear gap in the market which htc have decided not to fill. It reminds me of the wii u.

I want that headset too, the one with perfect tracking, audiophile surround sound, 220FOV, OLED blacks and 8k per eye resolution all for £199.99. LOL

And I want it now!

Thats an unreasonable request that no one is realistically asking for.

If the Cosmos was £450 - £500 and had the same tracking as the RiftS without the ridiculous battery requirements I think they would be in a good place.

It’s not unreasonable then to add headphones to the RiftS an extra down facing camera, a higher resolution panel a IPD adjuster and a flip up headcount for an extra £300. See what I’m saying?

You get what you pay for.

No one has asked for that.

For £1,000 though I would like:

High fov panels (say 160)
High resolution oled screens with deep blacks
Inside out tracking (I’m thinking 2k per eye oled if possible)
Decent ergonomics (magnetic facial interface or flip screen
Audiophile grade headphones with deep bass response (you can get decent entry level audiophile closed backs for under 100)
Nice comfy foam for the facial interface
Wireless connection to pc

I’d love but imagine this would be too expensive; a built in snapdragon process like the quest to play films in bed wirelessly (this is why I want inside out instead of sensor based tracking)

I don’t think that’s actually too much to ask for £1,000. The issue is headsets at that price point have dedicated 50% of the budget to tracking and controllers.

I think if anyones going to deliver such a headset it will be Samsung. They have the OLED tech with curved panels. They have the Snapdragon mobile for integration. They had the best WMR headset with minimal SDE and built in headphone. And I don’t think they’d price it above £1000 either.

Samsung have already built a prototype headset in the past called Exynos.

The point is we all know the RiftS is cheap, but it does an great job. The Cosmos is expensive and does a poor job.
