Hope this rumour is a little wrong! To be fair they have always been on record as saying it will be high end or in layman's terms, expensive.

Report: HTC Vive price might be as high as $1,500 Report: HTC Vive price might be as high as $1,500

If you skip back a couple of pages, the reps at Eurogamer were touting the same kind of price range when they were demoing the unit back in September.  Still hoping its wrong but it seems to be going in that direction.

$1,500.. Crivens!

I don't think that this Taiwanese mob have heard there's a looming global financial crash on the horizon.

No way that expensive. Rift already shown it can do room VR now so why would Vive be that much more expensive even if it does come with controllers? I would say $900 as I'm expecting the Oculus Touch controllers with extra sensor to be around $200-250

I'm still leaning toward the Vive. I have the space to make full use of the room tracking...

I suppose people will spend £1k on a graphics card.

There are a lot of bits in the package, £900 wouldn't surprise me.

Tested: Oculus Rift vs HTC Vive Pre

TL;DR...

Vive is the better headset, Touch is the better controller. Oculus is more comfortable on the head.

Must admit I was disappointed to read the analogy of the vive being 16:9 while the rift is 2.35:1, and I do wonder how significantly this will affect the Rift experience.

Also if the vive is that heavy and ungainly then that's likely to be the final consumer release (unless they delay again which will kill them imho).

Smart money would be to wait for CV2 (of either products)

It's a shame they didn't compare it to the DK2 aswell, just to give some context.

Plus the same article mentioned that the OLED panels are the same. Or some article I read today did.

So it may just have been down to calibration and configuration. In another setting the other screen may have seemed bigger.

One subjective view isn't enough to form a solid opinion just yet.

Indeed it is a bit of a bummer if the rift fov is not so good and the vive one better. I too would like a comparißon to dk2 and dk1 fov because truth de told I am OK with fov on those
