SSD is Solid State Disk.
Essentially your SATA drives are spinning magnetic platters.
An SSD is all memory chips and if you use it for the Operating System and programs it will make start up dramatically faster.

If you buy one large enough to hold your current video project and scratch disk dfor the program then I would expect the editing experience to be much quicker and smoother too but I don't do video so I may be wrong about that.

Thanks AMc, I must have had a mental blank. I've had 2 1tb sata drives in my current PC for the last 6 years. It was the "boot" that threw me.

SATA is the interface used to connect to the HDD/SSD not the SSD itself, if you have 2 2TB drives for 6 years then they will probably be HDD (SSD was massively expensive back then) not SSD.

A typical HDD can read & write at about 150 -200MBs, (Depending on the size of the file) a SATA connected SSD can do around 500-550MBs, (And have a virtually instant access time) the latest SSD use the NVMie interface with top models capable of 2500-3500MBs, and is what I suggest you go for as your boot drive. (The drive that contains the OS and programs)

Unless you are connecting to an external network system (You connect directly to your work network for example) and/or use encryption for all your files, then is no reason to go for Win 10 Pro as Win 10 Home is all you need.

Just to clarify things, below is the spec of my current PC built by PC Specialists back in 2013. The only problems I've had with it are when I first got it & hadn't realised I had to connect an aerial that I missed inside the box it came in & the watch battery failed after 2 years. I've been using MS Professional since my XP days back in 2007. At the time I chose it because it could handle more RAM than the home editions. Not sure if that applies now, but I don't just use my PC for editing. For the additional £20 PCS charge for the upgrade from home to Professional I don't see the point in changing.
Since my original post on this I've been looking at an all in one from PCS, but the best they can offer in a panel is one with an 8Ms response time as against the Benq stand alone I've semi chosen of 1Ms.

Sorry just seen your other post where you say not 4K video.  I think you need to be looking at an i7 minimum if the intel route.  I would also bump the ram to 32GB add two ssd drives for the video editing and one large drive for storage, perhaps use the ones from your current PC.

This site gives a lot of good information on video editing and the differences between systems

Are 2nd Gen AMD Ryzen Threadripper CPUs good for video editing?

Hope this helps.

Hi Tony, I'm editing MP4 with my current set up & won't be going 4K. I'm also on a 1k budget for the PC. Thanks for the interest.

FWIW, Graphics Cards:-I don't think you need more that about 2Gb for  4K movies .... The top-performing graphic cards are really for 3D Gamers. Similarly 16G RAM is probably quite sufficient - the processor is where the "Value" lies - and improving that a little costs a lot.
One SSD for the OS is all you need (= C-drive ) and probably 250G will achieve that; but with prices falling,  indulge in something larger. I believe the latest OS can be "told" there is an SSD about, so it doesn't need to defragment this. They appear to have a limited life for R/W.... but this must be improving. Note that nowadays the SSD's are not SATA - the MBO has a dedicated slot for SSD - some even have two. Obviously the SSD need to match this interface.
For Video storage;  something like 4Tb HDD should do, with another 4Tb as back-up. If your MBO supports USB3 that useful as you can have external Back-up which is potentially "Safer" than any internal drives -if you go away you can put the external drive somewhere safe.
Your supplied suggested a lesser PSU (you said), but if the price difference is small, I guess I'd prefer the higher power model, esp. if it has a variable-speed fan ( reducing noise until it gets hot). Fans are cheap-enough so an extra one fitted to the case may be a good investment.
AMD or Intel ? . . . all much of a muchness I guess. However, almost any new kit will be far faster than what you bought some years ago.

Cheers.
