Thanks, it's RAID 0...sorry typo! NAS is RAID 5.
Use a Kingston USB 3.0 Card reader to copy from some Sandisk Extreme Pro 95mb/s cards.

No way in hell that Pc spec should be "slow" with LR IMO - have you got system/apps on SSD ?

To be clear my PC isn’t slow, Lightroom is as you can probably guess from the spec I’m a gamer and it absolutely chews through games as well as the odd bit of video editing I do though I only use free apps for that.

It’s just not utilising all the cores and read / write ability of the RAM properly so building previews and importing RAW’s just isn’t what it should be and unless I ‘invest’ in Adobe’s CC rental scheme which I refuse to support I’m stuck with what I have.

I have various hardware monitoring tools and you can literally see the CPU being underworked with idle cores when it should be getting smashed.

How slow is "slow" to you then ? - ignoring CPU/Memory/Disk monitoring - I still say LR6 shouldn't be slow on that box even if only using a single core

Capture One is the only one I've seen that has really been credited as being multi core, e.g.

raw processing multi-thread/multi-core/GPU performance scaling: Retouching Forum: Digital Photography Review

Its really quite expensive compared to Lightroom CC though unless you're sure you're not upgrading your camera / shoot Sony.

Not much use to the OP, but hey the question was what I moved to.

I gave up my Adobe CC subscription and move to Apple Photos following High Sierra release. And I supplement it with plug ins by Luminar and Affinity Photo. Also got Affinity Design to replace Adobe Illustrator.

The plugins do have PC versions and I think Luminar is building its own dam as well.

No as I haven't got CC and refuse to buy into their stupid 'rental' scheme. I don't use LR enough to warrant a never ending spend of £120 per year.

I'm happy to buy any other software outright hence the thread.

Well as you can probably guess I like things to be fast, I want to be able to leverage the hardware I have upgraded to recently. I came from an i7 2700k @ 4.5ghz, 16gb DDR3 ram, single SSD disks etc and have seen a decent increase in gaming, video editing, read / write speeds, general performance etc but LR feels exactly the same.

It's usable of course but it's not what it could be purely because it's not developed as such and will never be now because I'm not going the CC route.
