Spent the (long) weekend at the squash, rugby 7's and even managed to blag some tickets to the table tennis and the velodrome.

Absolutely fantastic. Great atmosphere, well organised, friendly and knowledgeable volunteers and good public transport provided free for ticket holders with lots of extra services added to make travelling easier. Best weekend out in ages and not that expensive either.

Most of what I've been watching is on the red button so no talking studio heads just commentary.

Yeah the city is buzzing, the weather is not great the past few days which is a shame as Wed/Thurs/Fri it was scorching and Places like Glasgow Green, Merchant City and Pacific Quay (where the BBC & SECC are) were amazing places to be.

My wife asked why isn't there a Winter Commonwealth Games?
I guess most commonwealth countries don't have much winter sport.

I was wondering why sailing and rowing are not CG events?
But google gave me this
Sports included in the Commonwealth Games

Went to the Judo which was rather good - also watched it on the TV - they had a really good commentator in Neil Adams and his wife who is absolutely bonkers.

Felt Glasgow had a real feel good factor with the games and the organisation seems to be fantastic.  Also helps that it's during the school holidays so the traffic is non-existent for the most part.

Any table tennis experts here?

In doubles, why do players have to alternate shots. What an utterly ridiculous rule. Proper tennis isn't like that!

And why the even more ridiculous 'serving stomp'. I'd be embarrassed to play table tennis like that.

Well that's all over for another 4 years. I watched quite a bit, a few exciting events including the diving, some of the athletics and swimming and also a few events where to be fair the competition for the home nations wasn't exactly top class, but a win is a win.

You do get more "Eddie the Eagles" at the Commonwealth games but they're there for the moment and to try to do their best. Standout one for me was a guy from Bahrain who was there for a cycling event in the velodrome. He had never ridden or raced in a velodrome only on the road.

Still it was overall a great event with a superb effort by the home teams to win a lot of unexpected medals.  Atmosphere at all the events I attended was excellent helped on by the volunteers and huge applause for all the nations. A great event for Glasgow and the UK.

I think the players would get in the way of each other if they both stayed at the table and played "nearest the ball". As for the serving stomp, are you referring to to the players stamping their feet when they are trying to impart as much spin on the ball as possible? They also do this when they smash the ball as well. Its all to do with planting your foot to create as much power or spin as possible.
BTW i'm no expert but I did play high level as a child.
