Nice touch by the BBC to remember Paidi O'Se in the roll of honour. Most of you won't know that he was a legend in Gaelic football, winning 8 All Ireland medals as a player and 2 as a manager for Kerry. He died yesterday aged 57.

Wiggins always was the fave so i guess it was no surprise.

The rest could have filled any place.

Murray won the first grand slam for a zillion years by a Brit so no surprise he was up there.  A staggering year for a Brit, given how crap we are at Tennis in general.

Ennis is the golden girl of UK athletics.  Had she not won gold, i'm sure Mo would have taken her place in the top 3.

Wiggins is a worthy winner but I voted for Jennis

Reckon McIlory should've been higher too, after his outstanding year. He can't do much more than prove himself as the number one in his sport. The results were always going to be 'diluted' however in an Olympic year

Which is why Wiggins and Murray always stood the best chance of winning.
Outstanding performances both in the Olympics and outside the Olympics.  Something no other Olympian athlete could really match no matter how good their Olympic performance was.
No Olympian athlete could complain that is wasn't fair as they only get noticed once every four years, because Wiggins and Murray were Olympic winners too.

Perhaps McIlory's chance will come in Brazil, if he can pull off a similar double that year.

Moreover, Wiggins seems to be one of the rare people who have won SPOTY to actually meet the 'Personality' side of the equation too.

Pity there doesn't seem to be any video footage of him playing "That's Entertainment" and "Wonderwall" with the house band at the after event party.

Yeah, during the piece where they do the roll of honour of sportsmen and women who have died over the past year.

I was pleasantly surprised to see him included, given that he wouldn't be widely known to the BBC audience and he'd only died the day before. Someone in production obviously thought he was worthy to include.
