Hi all, we’re off to Berlin and Hannover first week of April and are looking for reasonably priced accommodation for 2 adults and 4 kids, was hoping to find a good hostel with a private dorm we could all share but am struggling to find one or even at a push a joining hotel room large enough for the tribe. I guess we could air bnb but I thought the hostel vibe would be good for the kids want to get them in the mind frame that hostels can be fun so hopefully they want to go traveling when they’re older. Also thinking about a day and possibly a night at tropical island has anyone been? Worth it ? Kids 13, 11, 11 and 6.

Hotels in Germany are such good value and certainly in Berlin ( ! ) why even bother looking at private rooms in hostels ?

I’ve struggled to find any rooms that come close to the cost big enough for 2 adults and 4 kids. Unless I’m looking in the wrong place.

What I said was true in general but I'm sorry I didn't notice the 2   4 thing. Yes, I suppose in absolute terms it would/likely be cheaper, but in terms of value for money I think its poor.

But also, I do think hostels can have horrible aspects ( yes I've had the experience in the distant past ). I find it hard to see a positive in this hostel vibe thing. Just my opinion, I know.

Yeah I’m not thrilled about them either but needs must, Berlin sorted €400 for 5 nights single room with bathroom ( shared was my main concern) bunk bed pod type things with free WiFi on alexanderplatz Hannover is proving more troublesome £300 for 2 nights

For anyone else looking for accomodation for a stupidly large family we booked this in Berlin: MEININGER Hotel Berlin Alexanderplatz – super central and affordable
6 bed dorm with own shower/toilet.
5 nights 433 Euro

and

2 x superior suites with one double and 2 single beds here Hotel Hanover - Novotel Suites Hannover City
£266  for both rooms for 2 nights.

The bonus with this hotel is it's right next to a big concrete tower with a VW badge at the top, if that's your thing

where about's in Hannover do you want to stay - must it be the centre? - as the esbahn links are decent there (I used to live there, and visited there the other year)...

what dates are you in hannover exactly - as I can check for you... and airbnb can be decent too...

what will you be doing in hannover - as I can give you some tips etc..

We have mates who live in the  Oststadt area so wanted to be close so the hotel seems not bad for that.

Plus it's right next to the train station so that's good too.

ah yes, we stayed at the Novotel... was ok, from the station you can get access by walking through the road that goes under the railway lines (about 15 minute walk)... we never had breakfast there (not sure if they offered it, as we don't always have it in hotels) - but there was the option of free coffee and muffins in the reception area...

Just waiting until next month when we can book tropical island for the day looks pretty amazing and should keep the kids happy, only 30-40 min on the train from Berlin so should be good.
