Hi all i am in a bit of a quandary. We have been looking forward to a holiday to Italy all year all paid and due to fly next weekend.
Last week my wife took poorly ended up in hospital with a chest infection for a few days she then gets home for her birthday and within a couple of days becomes ill again so back to hospital..she is much better but still in. Anyway i am sure she will be out soon and be ok but i am not sure if we should go. The hospital said she will be fine to fly etc so i doubt we could get a doctor to say she is not fit which would make it difficult to get money refunded via insurance. I did inform insurance first time she went in and will obviously tell them about her second hospital visit. Also she really want to go on holiday..not sure what to do for best to be honest !

Having just come back from Italy, a few things to consider...

It is still very hot out there, will this help or aggravate her condition? Coastal areas are good, but inland it can still be stifling during the day.
Does your accommodation have aircon? This again might give her some respite.
Italian state hospitals are not a great place to end up in and private healthcare is expensive and may not be covered on your insurance.
No doubt the trip through the airport will involve quite a lot of walking - unless you can arrange assistance.
The flight probably presents the fewest problems, as most airlines carry emergency oxygen for passengers in respiratory distress.

Will she be clear of all antibiotics by then? If she gets the all clear to fly, then I think I would go, but get clearance from the insurance company. Also make sure you have your EHIC cards just in case!

I am not sure she will be clear of antibiotics..good point about EHIC cards. If her breathing is not 100% then as you say with weather etc its not worth the risk.

She is going to see her GP when she gets out see what he recommends i will then inform insurance and take it from there.

EHICs often take less than 7 days. Apply for it anyway. You won't get free or reduced cost healthcare in Europe without it.
