You don't have to use the lock, you can use a regular padlock on the zips instead.

Samsonite all the way, bought the lightest one they had (in the 75cm Range) about 2 years ago, probably over 50 flights, sat on it stood on it. No problems with it, also has a 10 year guarantee.

But they are not the cheapest mine was $500 iirc.

I used to go with Samsonite but now buy Briggs and Riley when they're on sale. They come with a lifetime guarantee including airline and airport baggage handling damage. The build quality is astounding and they're easy to move around.

Tripp 4 wheeler from Debenhams and also hand luggage 4 wheels, both survived a trip to the US unscathed. We don't bother locking cases as they are nearly always searched by homeland security.

Another vote for Briggs and Riley, depends on the amount of travel though to warrant the price.

Can't go wrong with Samsonite, as long as it has a guarantee.

Less of a traditional look but I took an Osprey roller (with built in backpack straps) round the world for 9 months through cities, slums, jungles, beaches, glaciers you name it and it barely has a scratch on it.

American Tourister   is good . I use to have 3 x Rimowa and loved them. Then came in the stupid cabin weight allowance and they became almost useless !
