(I am not sure if this qualifies as "wearable" or not, if yes, Mods please feel free to move this thread)

I have been doing some research into wearable NFC or RFID tags, as I think it is something that seems totally foreign now, but will be very widespread in the future.

I see there is a company in the UK (BioTeq - Human Re-Engineering Human Microchips ) who have an implant kit where you can insert a NFC or RFID chip into the skin between your forefinger and thumb. I think that this would be super useful, and would pay for itself in time! (eg. it could counter forgetting your house keys somewhere and needing a locksmith!)

There are so many practical uses:
1. NFC contactless payments (sadly, not available yet in the UK)
2. Access control to doors / work etc
3. Medical reasons - this is a HUGE sector. Especially for people who struggle to make use of keys or phones.

All of which can be done with the same chip in a ring at a fraction of the cost and with none of the medical risks.

Sticking stuff inside the body is not something to be done lightly and should probably be kept to stuff that can function just as well on the outside of your skin.

Didn't know the ring option was even an option. Got any links? It would be good to research

NFC Ring were generating some hype a few years ago but I don't know if they're still popular now. Looking around it seems mostly to have gone towards wristbands these days.

Other jewellery is available too, such as necklaces.

Some handguns now have NFC coded chips in a ring that the user wears. This is a safety system that only lets the user, wearing an NFC encoded ring operate the firearm. Many police officers around the world are shot with their own firearm.

There are 2 or 3 fairly exclusive nightclubs in LA that have bio-implant membership tags.

There are a few Silicon Valley startups that give the employees the choice of swipe card or bio-implant both for building access and for network logon.

Bio-implants are nothing new, we have been sticking them in our pets for years, with no detriment to them Petlog, Petrac etc.

NFC / RFID tags / chips are not 100% secure as they can in theory be cloned.

The above is an Xray of my right hand with a 13.56mhz chip from BioTeq. This one has my contact card in it. In my left hand I have a basic 125khz xEM chip from Dangerous things xEM RFID Chip | RFID & NFC Chip Implants and Biohacking products %
This is a clone of my work pass. I sought advise before doing these implants myself.

Any Questions?

Yes! Loads of questions! hahaha

1. When you say contact card, do you mean contactless for payments? Or something else?
2. Have you noticed any draw backs?
3. Is it as useful as you originally thought?
4. Did you program and insert them yourself?

1 Contact as in details email, phone number etc Vcard
2 A few people have come up with stupid you can be tracked and have details stolen. Both wrong.
3 I`ve not been locked out of my workplace in the last two years.
4 Yup to both. You can get handheld scanners and writers or ones to connect to your PC. Also android phones with nfc capability. iPhones can only read via an app at present.
It did hurt a bit.
