All inkjets run regular internal cleaning cycles to keep the nozzles clear. I didn't know about it till an HP engineer came round to fix a printer and showed me the area where the printer collects the ink from doing this onto a pad where it should evaporate. Means that inkjets are not ideal for occassional printers.

I love my cannon inkjet. IX6800. Borderless photo glossy A3 prints at my leisure. Ink from stinky Ink is cheap as chips so i don't care if jets get clogged

Well I've never noticed it on mine, and it normally sounds like a Harrier jump jet when doing anything lol.
Anyway new printer has arrived so hopefully a thing of the past.

We are printing about 3 bits of homework a week and everything else is spreadsheets etc. So think inkjet is just not the correct toll for the job.
Fortunately, If I need to print anything really nice I've got an industrial Roland Print and Cut machine I use at work, which is nice.

I had a £150 Epson that drove me nuts with paper jams, dropped wifi and clogged printer heads.
Last week I bought a Canon MG3650 all-in one for £30 from PC World as recommended by Which?
In my experience all consumer printers end up as junk before too long so this time I'm only going to be a few quid down..
7 days use and no problems - I could never say that with the Epson!

The laser printer has been great. The only downside is bulk, it is chunky in comparison. But I'm happy to have something that just prints without fuss

For Photo printing and printing documents, I can recommend the Canon IP7250
You even buy CD/DVD Labels, stick them on the Discs and place the Disc on a loading tray and the Printer will print straight onto the Disc.
For cheapness it does a excellent Photo print out, (use Gloss Paper)
Can print both sides of the paper..

Go on ebay for the Inks and you are looking for a set as little as £3
Please note there is no Scanner built into it!
But you have WiFi built in, you can set it up to print from your Mobile..
I've had mine now for 2years and so far no paper jams, no Wi-Fi drop outs or any problems with it..
I prefer my Canon USB LIDI 220 one, fast and does a excellent scanning job.

I agree as regards the printer - but as regards sticky labels NOOOOOO!!!!  This method is highly recommended as a way of vastly shortening the life of your disc.  You can, however, buy blank discs with a printable surface.  That works.

Downside to laser is the first refill comes quicker than you think as the tanks are probably sold half full (it should say in the blurb or check the printer levels on the software).

But saying that I have just had to buy my second full refill (non branded four pack £67). Last time was 2013. I get 1800 or so on a tank and don't print much. Inkjets are just too thirsty and quickly cost more than laser at the cheap end of the range. Online photo printing is cheaper now.

Strange having this Printer over 2 years and doing many CD/DVD labeling I haven't come across any problems whatsoever by this method? as long as you do the job properly making sure the label itself is fully stuck down. You could go for blank printable discs I suppose.
