i got a HP envy photo 7830 all in one printer, which came with 8 ml cartridges that run out far too fast.
my problem is refills seem to come in 200 pages or 600 pages or 8ml or 22ml respectively but this is never confirmed on any sale?, ie 303xl will be advertised as 8ml or sometimes 10ml, where it should be 22ml if i got this right, and just 303 is 8ml grrr can anyone clarify and why is it so misleading

They appear to be tri-colour catridges, so it may be that some places are listing the amount per colour and some are listing the combined amount for all three colours.

Although if you're also seeing this widespread for the black cartridge then I'm not sure.

A quick check shows the 303 non-XL cartridge typically listed at 3ml, 3.5ml or 4ml.

thanks for reply but surely 3 to 4 ml cant be right!, i thought 22ml was a too little amount of ink, isn't a teaspoon 5ml ?

Yeah, a teaspoon is 5ml. To put it another way the standard fountain pen ink cartridge is 0.8ml, so it's five of them.

Ink dries up. The smaller ink cartridges in the range exist so people who only print occasionally don't waste ink and get correct out of ink errors rather having to struggle with dried out cartridges.

Printer manufacturers do produce models for those who are printing a lot more. Something like HP's 973X black cartridge contains 182.5ml for example

If you're not really wanting to print photos, cheaper to buy a colour laser printer.

This could be good for you but sadly still in development...……
