Just to confirm you pressed OSD on the remote as per the manual to get the menu on the TV?

Also see the notes on p.52 as per bottom of that page you linked

һ Playing Back on Your TV
≥Depending on your TV, nothing may be shown
even if you correctly connect the movie camera
with your TV. In this case, set [AV JACK] on the
[AV IN/OUT] or [INITIAL] Sub-Menu to [OUT].
≥If you set [AV JACK] on the [AV IN/OUT]
Sub-Menu to [IN/OUT], nothing will be shown
on the TV screen except during playback.
≥Picture size may be displayed differently when playing back a Cinema picture on a wide-screen TV with Playback Digital Effect.”

Thank you for your reply. I didn't try the "OSD" button on the remote yet. I just purchased a battery for it and will give that a try later tonight. Do you think that pressing that button will activate everything? I was hesitant to purchase the battery thinking that the remote was just to be used if I didn't want to press play, stop, etc on the camcorder.

I appreciate your reply on the other areas too and will check those settings as well and report back.

I did try all of these things and still nothing. Maybe a smart tv is not compatible with minidv? Just too old?

Or, either the AV jack on the camera is broken or the cable is bad or the inputs in the tv are bad. I’m thinking the AV jack is broken. I will try to find another device with an AV Jack and yestnit test it.

Would this cable work for S-video?

No, that cable won't work. S-video is 4 pins and that cable has 10 pins.

Have you tried all combinations of the phono plugs into the tv? It may be that the order of the pins is different and the red or white connection might actually be the video.

There's no reason why your tv won't work with the camera and cable, but it's tricky to diagnose without the ability to swap things around and work out where the fault is.

Thank you very much. I switched around the cables and am now getting video ...
It's strange, that the red audio cable is actually the video cable. I'm still not getting audio, but I'll take the video...Do you think the fault lies in the AV port on the camcorder, TV or cable? I actually tried two cables and both were off...

It will be the cable. Either the socket or the cable you have is non-standard. It's likely to be the cable, so try another one. Try this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Devinal-3-5mm-Phono-Audio-Video/dp/B075NZ3VN3/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1545081700&sr=8-15&keywords=mini jack to 3 phono

Thanks. You mean it just happened that I had two "non-standard/cheap" cables that didn't work properly? You think that a higher quality cable should produce sound on the TV?

Ahh, didn't pick up that you'd tried 2 cables.

To test the audio, plug in a pair of headphones. This should prove the audio connection works.

If this works, might be worth checking the audio options are correct on the TV.

Do you mean to just plug some headsets into the AV jack on the camcorder?
