No, its the Portable DAB & FM sports radio small enough to hold in the palm of your hand but it accepts a headset which as I'm hard of hearing I need to be able to hear anything..

Sorry but I'm not certain what you mean. "Possibly even worse then as it likely uses the headphone cable for an aerial." Your right about it using the headphone cable as an aerial because as the headphone cable is long I chucked it across the sofa and the signal strength did improve. However its not what I want so I will keep looking for something rather larger that looks like a radio.

I meant that a crappy piece of wire for an aerial could at least be raised as high as it will go, a basic requirement for an aerial. A headphone cable that goes no higher than your ears is invariably going to be worse.
