I absolutely loved the first Hell House when I saw it a couple years ago and it's one that I continually go back and watch because the creepy clown still creeps me out. I watched the second Hell House earlier this year and was very disappointed and I think it was because I had high hopes. The acting in the second Hell House was horrible and I felt like they tried way too hard to surpass the first. When I heard they were making a third, I'd hoped they would redeem themselves and in my eyes, they did.
A big part of the scare factor was, yes, the creepy clown was back. They don't need to do much with that clown to have it be creepy. However, the essence of the first one was also back and I think that's what made the third movie so much better than the second one. Also, Gabriel Chytry is not bad to look at.
