Great Godzilla action

This movie is another of the old monster films that disappeared from late-night TV. I remember as a kid that great feeling of checking out the listings in the new TV-Guide for monster movies and seeing something like "Godzilla Raids Again" on at 2am, where I would have to fight to stay awake. I missed the second-half of so many monster movies this way! There was such a great feeling of atmosphere when you were a kid, the lights out except for the TV, 2am, watching an old b/w monster movie trying to stay awake for the whole thing after you convinced mom to let you stay up (we certainly didn't have a VCR in the 70's).

The main reason this movie is so cool to watch is because you get to see a real raw Godzilla, before he went color and a little more high-tech (for what that was worth from Toho in the early 60's). The first fight is eerie with a cool shot of the monsters plunging into the sea, and from there the film is non-stop fun.

Sure this movie has problems, but watching Godzilla in 1955 as opposed to the Godzilla movies coming out today (still great stuff) is a blast, seeing how they did it REALLY "old school."

score 8/10
