electric drum kits?

hi all.

used to play drums as a teenager.....a long time ago now...and I keep thinking of a hobby...trying to play acoustic guitar crossed my mind but having had  a few goes on my daughters I don't now if I've got the patience.

anyhow as I live in a 2 bed terrace a proper kit is out of the question so any thoughts on electronic kits?

as everyone I cant afford anything too flash so was wondering if 500 quid or under sets are  a waste of time?....I imagine theres a lot of second hand ones around so would prefer to go used...any makes worth a look or more to the point to avoid?

any advice/experience would be appreciated

EBay, I picked up a Roland TD6V under your budget and that was a grand worth of kit easily new. This was a year or so ago.

I'd recommend looking at Yamaha and Roland kits and went second hand because the fuller featured kits run well over your budget, which was the same as mine.

The other bonus is that second hand kits can have little use, as mine turned out to be. They can be a fad if they're picked up out of curiosity. But it's had plenty of use in our house

Of course, I may have been lucky and buyer beware, but I saw plenty of decent kits when perusing ebay at the time.

was thinking they're are probably a few kits knocking around hardly used..
looked at a Yamaha set in shop a couple of years ago...which was about 5 grand if I remember rightly.

seems to be a lot of alesis kits knocking around on the bay....i'm guessing probably for a reason

Sound advice

On that budget you might be able to get a full mesh head kit second hand but if not just make sure it has a mesh snare. The Roland cymbals are great, I have a TD-8 module and Roland cymbals on my kit.

Mine's a Jobeky mesh kit. Bought it about 8 years ago when they were just starting out. Looks like they're doing pretty well now and have a lot of players endorsing them. You always have the option of upgrading the module and cymbals at a later date too. Luckily the drum teacher in my school sold me a TD-8 module but I switched to the Roland cymbals after a couple of years.

Yamaha dtxpress 4 special set is what i have. You could look around for a second hand set along that line. I had a Brady's kit and sold it and then purchased the Yamaha for teaching purposes.I find it great that you can actually turn it down or just simply put on your headphones.The Jobeky kit looks like it could suit you to a tee and would be good value for the money. guitar now taking my time up now!..

though I did have a go on a little roland set whilst having a go through about 10 different guitars in a music shop the other week......luckily I said before hand I was no drummer!
haven't played for 30 years....suddenly I found I couldn't play for toffee!.....resorted back to beginner boom tit boom boom tit!

sounded good but don't know about the responsiveness compared to an acoustic set....my neighbour keeps saying hes going to get a set so might be a bit of practicing there

...and I heard the other day from me mum  that my sister has had her first lesson!

(HEHE) this getting older thing is a bit of a bummer, i sort of know how you feel. Those were the days when the body was young and anything was good. Good luck with your guitar playing.
