Is there a better all rounder than the 335D XDrive?

It’s on my shortlist for the next car, or whatever the future model will be in 2020/2021

Yeah... Tried a Tesla in Ludicrous Mode or whatever they call it. Scarily fast off the line, but no excitement  - at least compared to a big noisy petrol engine. They feel very linear and quiet, but midrange acceleration felt really no better than a similar BHP petrol.

I would imagine that a high powered hybrid would be the optimal solution.

It’s one I’ve ticked off the list - thoroughly enjoyed.

Thinking maybe a Range Rover SVR next or a model S. both seem worthy all rounders in their own right.

OH's Sister's husband has the SVR and it is a total beast that shouldn't do what it can, but it does and does so at terrifying speeds.

Watch out for the frequent suspension issues on the SVR, a pal of mine’s spent more time in the repair bay than it did on the road.

Considering the power, fuel consumption, and sure footedness I don’t think so.

Nothing else offering the same power / torque / economy as the 335d.

That 3 litre straight 6 diesel cannot be beaten.

Recently sold mine, absolutely awesome motor, fast as a fast thing going fast! 30  mpg. Great auto box, stable drive with the xdrive system. Ride not so good on 19" rims so stick with 18" if you buy one.

Jaguar XF 3ltr.

Although not a new one as it will breakdown before you have even driven it off the forecourt.

I had the E91 335 Touring and couldn't get on with it, swapped for the 335i and adored it.

This was coming out of an S4 avant (worst car I have owned) and I can tell you now with the right tyres the 335i even with its RWD was quicker than the S4 no matter what the weather.

The 335i was around 15% worse MPG wise than the 335d.

So I would argue that the 340i touring is a better all rounder than the 335d.

I also got the chance to have a play with the X3 M40i recently too, that would get my vote over the 335d as well, stunning capable.
