I don't know where you are based, but there's a very good specialist in Dyce, Aberdeenshire. I used to pass it often on my travels, and I know of a guy local to me in N.Ire who would only buy from this dealer/agent.

having run a Freelander for 3 years and have had to have a front diff at 40000 miles and a rear diff at 50000 miles just out of Warranty at £1000 per time ( From an independent)be aware that these vehicles are very expensive to maintain when they go wrong. It sounds like you dont really need one, but want one ,I do a lot of work with the rural sector and I needed one due to doing a lot of tracks and fields . If you are set on having one the only advice I could give is buy one within warranty and look after it- There is no such thing as cheap Land Rover!

I don't need one at the moment, but I will in not-so-distant future when we move out further into the countryside. Me being me, I decided to start my research early and after a couple of days on Autotrader I have discounted pretty much all of older (within the budget) 4x4 vehicles as not-for-me and got my eyes on RRS, which on paper, is the perfect machine... I mean, it was until I started reading more about it

To be fair though, the idea is to buy a car and keep it for as long as possible. Make it part of the family Joking, but the idea is to have one car to do it all (my wife doesn't drive, so no need for second car). A kind of family tank... but a bit more comfortable than tank. I can imagine I will be spending a lot of time in the car ferrying my family around, so I wanted it to be comfortable, with toys, also good on road, good off road (for snow and mud) and also to look good. Is this too much to ask for?

A good set of  winter tyres can be just as good as 4 wheel drive but zaso remember that 4wd carries a hefty fuel consumption penalty. Be sure you are buying it for the right reasons. I love the RRS  but I would never buy one particularly as £40k buys one just out off warranty!.  If you must scratch the itch what about doing a PCP rather than ownership  and if theres a problem you just smile and give it back

It is about being able to get us out if the weather turns nasty and we need to get our supplies... or get to a hospital... or wherever else. But also it was also meant to bring a smile to my face every time I drive it. If I wanted something purely good off road, simple, with no toys, I would get myself an old tractor So yes, there is an element of a child screaming "want!", I admit. At least there was at the beginning. I'm not sure anymore, as the idea of "RRS - the reliable tank" seems to be diminishing quite quickly every time I read about its problems.

RRS on PCP are quite expensive and over the budget. I am talking about 2007 - 2010 RRS.
