MOT pass or fail what do you think

I would also check your calipers and make sure the piston and slides are free.

as you can see in the 2nd photo the disks and pads have been replaced along with making sure slide pins are free ( one was seized ) and the piston working as it should

now for the story

bought this car for my daughter last friday, it was MOT'd by the trader i bought it off the same day and delivered to my door
the car so called passed it's MOT with no advisories
apart from the brake issue the car is in good order but no way on this earth those brakes would have passed

You definitely need to take it up with them as they shouldn't of passed an MOT.

Would never trust an mot as road worthiness. Traders often know mot testers and rush cars through over looking things on the promise of I'll fix it.

You could have reported the MOT station but now the discs have been changed I don't think you will. I would definitely have a word with the trader. If those brakes failed and somebody was seriously injured the blame could be at his feet

I would also want a refund for the brake discs and pads as any car from a dealer has a warranty I think

this is where it gets a little tricky
the "trader" i have now discovered trades under various names
the name he used to advertise the car was not his own and the trade name he used doesn't look like it exists
the last conversation i had with him over the phone about the brake issue didn't go well, as soon as he realised who he was talking to and what i had phoned him about he hung up which without a lot of hassle closes that avenue
i could go to the MOT station and have it out with them for passing it in the first place but the reality is it wasn't an expensive car and the work has now been done
i'm out of pocket by £120 ( price of disks n pads ) and a few hours of my time but now i know they are done and are safe

like i said the rest of the car is in good order and it's history isn't too bad
1 previous keeper from new and what i would class as a Good MOT history ( 1 advisory no fails since first MOT ) which suggests that it has been maintained through it's life up until recently

i know those brake disks conflict what i'm saying about the car but iv'e never seen disks that bad especially when the rest of the car is in good order but at 120 quid for disks and pads i can see why some people would be reluctant to have them changed once you add labour to the cost

what it boils down to is i chose the wrong trader but not necessarily the wrong car, any 10 year old car is going to have some issues and if the brakes are all i find i can live with that

I had similar with the rear disks on a CRV, I couldn't believe they could have passed the year before, but as a private sale I sucked up the cost and had many years of stress free motoring from it.

Even on a cheap second hand car I factor in that I want to change pad, discs, full service, tyres possibly. I’d like to get it back to a properly known quantity before I put my foot down.

I’m surprised at the discs,  it hey if they stopped the car then so be it.
