I don't get why you need the part number of the hose, just go to the dealer and tell them the hose you want and they'll get it.

You usually need the part number stamped on the hose to get the correct one as there are different ones fitted to different models, also you can get aftermarket ones which are matched up using the number stamped on the original.
Some of these hoses can cost north of £100! I bought the lower intercooler pipe for a Golf 1.9 TDi a few weeks ago...it cost me £60...the retail price was £84...this was aftermarket, TPS retail was £94.
VW dealers don't usually keep many parts these days...the trade use TPS who supply VAG parts.

I agree, the part number is the defining way of making sure you have the correct part, i mean thats what its for i reckon.
As said above, the intercooler rad, which is so nicely located, had to be the correct one, and i needed the connecter hose coming out of the rad.
I didnt think there would be a problem, just asking someone, i stated i wouldnt be able to afford a really expensive part, as its a 15year old car, would maybe be cheaper to get a newer petrol car, than fork out a fortune on new parts.
He said it would be approx £600 nicker for the all the bits i needed, and obviously didnt hear me about the money etc..wouldnt give me any part numbers.

He wasnt very understanding, in fact, id say he took offence to me asking, and got pretty weird about it.
So, i committed, took the whole front off, somehow managed to squeeze old Rad out, got part number, from the parts removed, ordered OME part, £60, and a hose £15, waited a couple of days, and (somehow), fitted, and worked like a dream.

For future reference it's worth looking online for VW-ETKA which should help you find the part and is what is used in the workshop.

Quick update..
I ordered, and got in the post, the  new hose i needed.
BUT, i ordered the wrong one, it was for an AUDI...(nobhead).
But,, i was just about to wait some more, and email back, asking if i could send back, and swap out, for the right one...
When i looked at the original part, the one off the passat, and it was fine, except the O ring, was alot smoother, when there should have been a sort of ridge, so i took the O ring from the hose i just recived, and put it on the Passat hose,.
Worked a treat, nice and tight seal, alot better than what it was, i mean it  clicked right in, and was a much tighter fit.
Unfortunately, there where no new horseshoe clips, so ill order some more, i think they are about £3.
Still, these ones seemed to clip right on, and again, seem to making a nice tight connection.
Took the car out, no bothers, nice feeling of actually going forward, with a bit of grunt behind it, i hadnt realized, how much power it had lost!!
So, ive just paid £20 for an O ring.....
But, so far, ( i dont want to jinx it).......
Thanks for all the help guys, this site is a godsend!!

Annnnddddd,,, back to square one!!
Pulling away from traffic lights,,,  felt the revs go up,, as per normal, got to just over 3000rpm, then 'click', something went, felt all the pressure go, and back to no pressure, and back to no acceleration.... grrrrrr......
WHHHHYYYYYY????
Looks like today I shall be checking connection, and taking off MAF sensors.....
What a kick in the nuts......

After another scan, clean and check of the turbo parts, pipes and connector pipes, theres a small leak of oil, coming from the seal on that connection.
There was also a piece of wire, that is connected to a sensor, that had the insulating outer worn away, i couldnt see any exposed wires or anything.
Other than that, its spotless....
1st pic is the silver pipe,..
2nd is the underneath of that pipe, there was oil, under and around the seal, you can see where its been dripping, looks like a while too.
3rd is same.
4th is where that wire/loom had worn away on the underneath of the air intake, it was lodged in between them.
